OUR PHILOSOPHY

What could you accomplish in your life if you woke up every morning excited and energized to greet your day? At What is Healthy Living, we intimately know that without our health, nothing else matters. Nothing. Yet sadly, we too know that the demands of our busy lives and the lure of the “fast-food” economy strains our best intentions to nourish our bodies.

Rather than the restrictive approach to nutrition practiced by many, What Is Healthy Living’s philosophy pivots on the principle “what can we add.” What tools can we offer? What services can we provide? What resources can we share? What support do you need to create a healthy lifestyle, to lose weight, to increase your energy, to achieve the outcome you desire in other areas of life in a way that feels easy and fun?

With “the science” of food as fuel directing our mission, we promote a healthy, vital lifestyle and offer you unparalleled partnership to take control of your health and your life. A whole body, holistic philosophy guides us as we work together with you in areas such as maximal energy, weight loss (or your optimal weight), cleansing, food cravings, juicing, and even time management, to ensure that you always have healthy food choices available to fuel your commitment and to help you achieve your goals. Over time, you will experience steady and lasting changes to your understanding of how nutrition impacts the whole quality of your life; by the direct experience you have us here at What Is Healthy Living.

Carol EganCarol A. Egan

Carol’s passion for a holistic, conscious lifestyle and a low-fat, whole foods, plant-based diet grew out of the life-changing experiences that developed early in her life. Living on the high-sugar, dairy laden, and nutrient devoid diet of over-processed foods mainlined through the standard American diet, her body began to respond with the likely symptoms of illness, including Irritable Bowel syndrome, chronic urinary tract infections, debilitating hives, anxiety, hypothyroidism, systemic yeast overgrowth, poor to no memory and poor to no concentration ability. But when a highly regarded endocrinologist recommended taking debilitating levels of a medication to mask the underlying reasons for her body shutting down, Carol abandoned his advice and sought out help from a natural physician. In the course of her journey from illness to wellbeing, Carol discovered that the food she chose to eat was the single most important variable impacting the quality of her life, beyond any recommendation previously offered to her. By simply adding healthier food into her diet, and omitting the nutrient devoid choices that seemed so commonplace among her family and friends, Carol almost instantly began to experience a level of energy, vitality and confidence she never knew before. These changes convinced her that food did indeed have the power to heal and transform. From her pursuit to restore her quality of life beyond illness, Carol’s newfound wellbeing, energy and vitality fueled her passion to educate others about the healing power of food.

Carol holds a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College, a M.Ed. from Boston College and certification in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University. Cornell faculty members include esteemed doctors from the medical world such as T. Colin Campbell Ph.D., Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn and Dr. John McDougall. Carol too earned certification as a Quantum Reflex Analysis Practitioner from Dr. Bob Marshall, of Premier Research Labs and trained extensively with a cutting-edge, global-leadership training and development group that excels in performance, communication and accountability. Carol became part of a leadership team that led participants to breakthrough results in all areas of their lives.

With her background seeped in the culinary industry, Carol offers her clients both nutritional coaching and private chef services. She combines her creative spirit and proclivity for pairing ingredients, her passion for healthy food, with her knowledge of plant-based nutrition and dietary theory to teach What Is Healthy Living clients how to not only prepare nutritious meals which taste amazing, but to impart what she discovered as the single most powerful force for creating health, energy and vitality.

Carol loves yoga and weight-training, dancing and music, cycling and mediation, and all kinds of new learning. But most especially, Carol loves turning others on to the transformative power of food by sharing her experience, insights and crazy-delicious, healthy recipes!

Mark Sandulli

Mark developed a consciousness about health and fitness early on in life, as an avid and ardent athlete. While he trained to maximize his performance for success, he studied and learned ways to strengthen his body to achieve the winning results he pursued. As he learned about human physiology, performance and achieving success, he was introduced to life coach Anthony Robbins, who took his level of awareness about health, nutrition and well-being far beyond the paradigm of the Standard American Diet (SAD) he was raised on. In a pivotal moment of self-development, the lessons of healthy living and the ways acidity creates the biological climate for all disease, and the ways the plant-based diet alkalizes and oxygenates the human body to ward off and even reverse disease, Mark’s life was forever changed. From those lessons, Mark embraced a whole-foods, plant-based lifestyle, and is inspired, indeed driven, to share with everyone he meets his passion for green smoothies, green juices, and the ways vegan fare has transformed his whole way of being in the world.

Mark attended Southern Connecticut State University and majored in Computer Science. With advanced work in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Website Design, and Social Media Marketing, Mark’s current intention is to merge his professional expertise with his personal passion for a plant-based diet to spread the word (yes, to as many people as he can possibly convert!) about the transformative power of live-food.

In July of 2012, Mark completed 25 days of his first juice fast!

Mark enjoys cycling, weight-training, listening to Gregorian Chants and Lady Gaga, with everything else in the middle!
